The leather looks good and it is very tough but being skin it can stain, wrap, and crack. Treat leather if you want to take care of it.

You have to plan how to take care of your leather. A rugged pair of boots does not require a lot of care but dress shoes do require care. Motorcycle jacket will look more natural it has a beaten up look. A bomber also goes a long way and does not have a worn out look. Riding a bike the style is to wear a leather jacket over your shoulders.

Every person has a different style and wants to look clean and polished. While others want a well traveled look and enjoy their bags having wear and tear marks and scratches and blemishes.

Leather being skin needs to breathe. If leather breathes it prevents rot and mildew. Leather allows air to pass naturally through the pores, leaving moisture to evaporate. This does not happen if the leather is sealed and stored in a plastic bag to transport it. Store it in a fabric bag and is made of natural breathable material. They can also store shoes, accessories and bags.

Keep leather safe from sunlight and heat. If leather gets very very wet and is waterlogged don’t try to dry it with a dryer or a heater. As we said earlier that leather is skin if it gets wet let it dry like skin, naturally no matter if it takes a few days. Leather fades in sunlight it also increases the time span of it cracking and drying. Air need to flow naturally so that does not allow mildew to grow.

You can apply a polish or you can apply a conditioner in a small area and wait to see if there is no change in color even slightly. Apply the polish and dry it for 24 hours. Then see what happens. It is a dreary process but the leather may look very different after a polish. Polish and cream are mostly available in brown, black, and neutral. To avoid leather changing color and shade keep to neutrals like gray and white.

Clean the leather with the help of a damp cloth or a wet towel to clean the grime. Do so to stop the dust from accumulating, along with abrasive particles which can lead to wear and tear. It also helps the leather to not age.

Leather products that are sold today are to an extent treated with waterproofing but leather does not require waterproofing. It holds up well in any condition – rain, snow, heat. If you wear leather boots and walk through rain, snow then waterproof them. It also means to protect your feet, and laptop and other important documents then waterproof your bags.

For leather shoes keep shoe tree in them, this helps to keep the shoe in shape, it does not crease and will also absorb moisture and odor. After wearing dress shoes clean and polish them before storing.

Work shoes don’t really need much care and should be cleaned weekly or twice a week and but condition every six months.

Do not over fill wallets and bags. Once it goes out of shape, leather will not come back to its original look. Bags do not require that much treatment but shoes face a lot of wear and tear. But you need to wipe it down regularly and condition every six months.

Jackets are like shoes need to be wiped down every day and conditioned every six months. If the leather looks dry and cracked it will need more attention. You will want a soft feel to leather, jackets have more leather.  So you need to follow a routine more often. It is just three steps to get good results in cleaning leather like wipe it down with a damp cloth, condition it, and waterproof it.
